The Senate met at 10 a.m.
(Senator Tomblin, Mr. President, in the Chair.)
Prayer was offered by the Honorable Walt Helmick, a senator
from the fifteenth district.
Michael A. Oliverio III, the son of the Honorable Michael A.
Oliverio II, a senator from the thirteenth district, then led the
Senate in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Senate proceeded to the second order of business and the
introduction of guests.
Senator Sharpe called attention to today being the birthday of
Michael A. Oliverio III and on behalf of the Senate extended
felicitations and good wishes to Michael with Senator Sharpe
leading the members in singing "Happy Birthday".
Pending the reading of the Journal of Friday, March 14, 2003,
On motion of Senator Unger, the Journal was approved and the
further reading thereof dispensed with.
The Senate proceeded to the thirteenth order of business.
Senator Sharpe called attention to today being the birthday of
the senator from Logan and on behalf of the Senate extended felicitations and good wishes to Senator Tomblin, Mr. President,
with Senator Sharpe leading the members in singing "Happy
Birthday".
Senator Bailey then moved that the Senate adjourn until
tomorrow, Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 1:30 p.m.
The question being on the adoption of Senator Bailey's motion,
and on this question, Senator Bailey demanded the yeas and nays.
The roll being taken, the yeas were: Bailey, Boley, Bowman,
Caldwell, Dempsey, Edgell, Facemyer, Fanning, Guills, Helmick,
Jenkins, Kessler, Love, McCabe, Minard, Minear, Prezioso, Ross,
Rowe, Sharpe, Smith, Snyder, Unger, Weeks, White and Tomblin (Mr.
President)--26.
The nays: Deem, Harrison, Hunter, McKenzie, Oliverio and
Sprouse--6.
Absent: Chafin and Plymale--2.
So, a majority of those present and voting having voted in the
affirmative, the President declared Senator Bailey's motion had
prevailed.
In accordance with the foregoing motion, the Senate adjourned
until tomorrow, Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 1:30 p.m.
